Starting from humble beginnings with 45 members in 1993, U3A Pine Rivers now offers a variety of classes and activities to more than 1000 members. Read about the History of U3A Pine Rivers.
A small group joined us for the Flanno for a Farmer morning tea on 23 August. Thank you ladies, and gentleman, for the delicious morning tea, for your important donations and your lovely company.
Thank you also for the members who were unable to attend and brought in their donations during the week and those attending classes who also contributed. Every dollar is appreciated by Farm Angels who support farmers doing it tough. So far we have raised $216.
If you would like to donate, please bring cash in to reception at U3A Centre Kallangur until 6 September, or make an online donation at https://www.flannoforafarmer.com.au.
The Creative Writing Group meet at the U3A Pine Rivers Centre, Kallangur on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.
The group was established by founding tutor, Vivienne Brooks around 2008.
The members of the group share their stories of approximately 800 words. They enjoy the witty, quirky, nostalgic, sometimes poetic content and encourage each other to explore their creative talents.
There was a special celebration on Wednesday 21 August to launch the compilation of the members’ writing, an anthology of short stories and poems.
They gratefully acknowledged the financial support from Hon Peter Dutton to assist with printing costs.
Congratulations are extended to the tutors Lyn Paton and Judith Gilligan, and the members of the group.
The Third Age is the best time of your life!
For more information, please call us on 3880 6677 or drop into the U3A Pine Rivers Centre, 1480 Anzac Ave, Kallangur.
Reception is open Monday to Friday 9 am to 12 midday.
Everyone who "works' at U3A Pine Rivers is a volunteer. Without the people who give their time freely, this organisation would not exist.
There are some positions, or roles, that require some level of committment.
All of these roles would benefit from an assistant, or a backup person. Do you have an interest, or skills in these areas? Speak to a member of the committee about how you could help. Consider joining the committee, which meets once a month, or nominating for an executive position in the future.
There are many other ways you could offer your time to help U3A Pine Rivers. For many small tasks you could spend a few extra minutes before or after your class. There is no need to allocate another day unless you wish to.
Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. Volunteering and helping others can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose.
Have a chat to anyone on the committee, about how you could give some of your time to help others in U3A, and yourself.
